Web Design - Information Architecture/UX Design
It's all about the User Experience - UX Design
When a user enters a web site, certain behaviors are expected. User Experience is all about expectations and intuitive behavior. And because most of human behaviors are psychologically rooted, a good and intuitive User Experience is so important, users will punish web sites not following these rules by abandoning them. After all, it's the internet, clicking away has never been easier and the competition is just a another click away.
Inadequate web experience is often caused by poor site behavior. Bad User Experience is like ... a car door that opens to the inside. Or a water fountain emitting milk. Unexpected or bad Web Site Behavior. Naturally results in suspicion and ultimately site abandonment.
Information Architecture
Our web design projects start with Information architecture, the phase that defines the structural frame as well as the User Experience Design for your site. Here, user experience elements, target audience and general site requirements are evaluated and the groundwork is laid to connect all objects and elements of the page together:
- Determine internet ready ness of your business
- Identify the appropriate site type for your project (brand presence, marketing campaign, content source, task-based application
- Define project Objectives and approach (Plan overall strategy, team structure)
- Determine Business Requirements (Heuristic Analysis, Technical and stakeholder requirements)
- User Research (Define User and Focus groups, User interviews, surveys, Usability Testing
- Personas (Define and test proper site target groups)
- User Experience Design (define the elements that affect user's experience in regards to perceptions and behavior, Define Site Technology, Design and Infrastructure)
- Site maps, task flows and wire frames
- Prototyping (Concept exploration/design testing)
What we do ...
When we develop a new web design project, a solid UX Design is the foundation when planning and laying out the project plan to create a rich and powerful online Experience. This is a very interactive process with the client, deciding on the design elements, structure , thematic color schemes, navigation and overall appearance of web design projects. This is also the most fun part, here clients see their vision come to life and are part of the process through as many reviews necessary until the desired outcome is achieved.
We also analyze existing web design projects in regards to performance to pinpoint problems that might cause user confusion or site abandonment. Here is a short list of the most common issues when it comes to User experience. So if you recognize one or more of the problems below, it might be time to investigate the User Experience:
- Are there pages where users are confused about location or don't know how to return to the prior page?
- Do users have to use the "BACK" button?
- Is your logo not redirect to your home/welcome page?
- Does the site provide proper landing pages?
- Do all buttons and interactive elements display behaviors (hover on mouse over, for example)?
- Are there status indicators on every page guiding your audience
- Is your Navigation intuitive/self explaining and repeats on every page?
- Is your footer useful (provides navigation when scrolling below the fold)?
- Is all of your Java script code following progressive enhancement rules?
- Can one click on links? Are all links working?
- Is the site organization intuitive (easy to follow)?
- Is the content hard to read/follow (are there excessive block text areas)?
- Are objects following margins, alignments, and proximity rules?
